JEK2

Status
Under development

GEN energija, d.o.o. is the promoter of nuclear energy development in Slovenia and, with it, the key national development project of strategic importance: the construction of the second unit of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant – JEK2.

Together with renewable energy sources, JEK2 represents a cornerstone for achieving climate neutrality and decarbonisation goals of Slovenia’s electricity generation system. The project will make a significant contribution to the development of a modern, reliable, safe, environmentally friendly and future-oriented electricity supply for Slovenia, while also ensuring price stability and competitiveness for both large and small consumers.

You are invited to visit the website presenting the JEK2 project in more detail.

JEK2 Location

The siting of JEK2 is planned in the immediate vicinity of the existing Krško Nuclear Power Plant (NPP Krško), which, with more than 40 years of successful operation, represents a foundation of trust for the local and wider community and a key factor in the social acceptance of nuclear energy. The site is a prime energy location with excellent connectivity to the electricity grid through three high-voltage transmission lines and complies with statutory guidelines for the construction of new energy facilities.

The location meets all required criteria relevant to the reliable and safe operation of a nuclear power plant. Based on analyses conducted to date, the site provides sufficient space for facilities, layout of structures, cooling options using cooling towers and connection to the existing switchyard adjacent to NPP Krško.

Project Phase

With the initiative to adopt a National Spatial Plan (NSP), the spatial planning procedure will begin. Throughout all phases of the project, the GEN Group will cooperate and engage in constructive dialogue with interested stakeholders, ensuring transparency and public involvement in the project.
